Context & challenges
Wantirna Residential Aged Care Facility is a modern senior living and care environment spanning 14,000 m² across 4 floors. In such facilities, ensuring the safety of care staff while maintaining rapid and reliable assistance for residents is a critical operational requirement.
The main challenges addressed by the project were to provide a mobile staff duress solution for personnel moving throughout the facility and to deploy a wireless nurse call system capable of operating reliably without heavy, dedicated infrastructure.
Project scope
The deployment covers the entire facility and includes:
Full indoor coverage across multiple floors and care areas
Real-time localization of care staff
Support for both staff safety and resident assistance workflows
Use of existing network infrastructure to minimize deployment complexity
Solution deployed
Pole Star implemented a combined solution addressing both mobile staff duress and wireless nurse call use cases.
Care staff are geolocated in real time via their smartphones, allowing them to trigger distress alerts directly from a mobile application when assistance is required. In parallel, the wireless nurse call functionality enables residents or staff to initiate calls that are immediately associated with a precise indoor location, ensuring rapid and targeted response.
Real-time staff location provides full visibility of personnel availability and movement, supporting faster coordination and intervention across the facility.
